Reading Quran Paak for Dead

Reading Quran for Dead

Reading Quran for Dead (deceased),Quran khawani.
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

And millions of durood on Prophet Muhammad

Imam Abu Dawood (d. 275H) (RadiAllahu anhu) narrates that Aa’s son of Vayl had made a will to free 100 slaves on his behalf (after his death). His son Hisham freed 50 slaves, his other son wanted to free 50 slaves but said first let me ask the Prophet of Allah (Sallallaho Alihi Wassallam).

So he went to the Prophet (Sallallaho Alihi Wassallam) and asked, “Ya Rasool Allah! (Oh Prophet of Allah!) (Sallallaho Alihi Wassallam) my father had made a will to free 100 slaves and my brother has freed 50 shall I free the other 50” Prophet (Sallallaho Alihi Wassallam) replied, If he (Aa’s bin Vayl) had been Muslim then if you would free them or do charity or perform pilgrimage it would reach him.
Imam Abu Dawood (RadiAllahu anhu) narrate that Saad son of Ubaddah (RadiAllahu anhu) went on holy wars (gazwaa’t) with the Prophet (Sallallaho Alihi Wassallam) and when he returned to Madina his mother had passed away. He (Saad) asked the Prophet of Allah (Sallallaho Alihi Wassallam), ‘Umm e Saad’ meaning my mother has died which charity [sadqa] is better for her. Prophet (Sallallaho Alihi Wassallam) replied, “Water!” Saad (may Allah be pleased with him) dug a well and said this well is Saad’s mother (that is, may its reward go to Saad’s mother).

(Hadith is Mishkat sharif )
Imam Muslim RadiAllahu anhu (d. 261H) narrates from Ayesha (RadiAllahu anhu said one man came and said “Ya Rasool Allah! (Oh Prophet of Allah!) (Sallallaho Alihi Wassallam) my mother has suddenly passed away and she has made no will. I suppose if she would have got a chance to talk she would have given charity (sadqa) so if I give charity on her behalf would its reward get to her sprit (Ruh) The Prophet (Sallallaho Alihi Wassallam) replied, Yes it will reach her!

Imam Nawawi (d. 676) in his explanation of Muslim (Sharh Muslim) says this means this narration (hadith) proves that if charity is given for the dead body its reward gets to the dead. Scholars have consensus on this.
Imam Nassai (d. 303) narrates from Son of Abbass (may Allah be well pleased with him) said one woman asked the Prophet (Sallallaho Alihi Wassallam), my father has passed away and he did not perform pilgrimage (hajj). Prophet (Sallallaho Alihi Wassallam) replied perform pilgrimage from your father (i.e., on his behalf).Imam Tibrani RadiAllahu anhu (d. 360) and Darul Qatnni (d. 385) narrated that the Prophet of Allah (Sallallaho Alihi Wassallam) said, whoever passes by the grave and recites “Qul ho Wallah-ho Ahd…” (Al-Ikhlas Chapter 112) So the grantor will get the reward equal to the quantity of the dead bodies.

Hazrat Nabi-e-Kareem Syedina Rasulallah Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam said:
"Recite Sura Yaseen for your died ones" (Abu Dawud, Ibn-e-Maaja, Mishkaat - Kitaabul Janaiz
Hazrat Imam Ahmed Bin Hunble states: "When ever someone(i.e.muslim) died in Ansaar-e-Madina then they use to visit their graves and recite Quran Kareem on their graves". (Mirqaat Sharha Mishkaat, Vol 4, Page 81
From the Below Hadith Shareef, we come to know that reading surah e mulk is good near graves and huzoor e kareem ( sal-lal-lahu alaihi wa sallam explained the sahabi the importance of surah mulk near graves.

Sayyidina Ibn Abbas (RadiAllahu anhu) reported that one of the companions of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) pitched a tent on a grave. He did not know that there was grave. It was the grave of human beings, who recited surah al-Mulk (#67) to the end of it. He came to the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) and said, “O Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم), I pitched my tent over a grave without knowing that it was a grave. The man inside recited surah al-Mulk to its end.” The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, “It is the rescuer. It rescues from punishment of the grave.”

Chapter 9, Virtues of surah al-Mulk, Tirmidhi (2899)

`A'ishah reports the Prophet صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم as saying: "If a company of Muslims numbering one hundred pray over a dead person, all of them interceding for him, their intercession for him will be accepted."

Muslim [jana'iz]

Ibn `Abbas said: "I have heard the Prophet say: If any Muslim dies and forty men who associate nothing with Allah stand over his body in prayer,Allah will accept them as intercessors for him."

(Muslim [jana'iz])
In many traditions the number of acceptable intercessors in the funeral prayer is reduced to three rows of men, even if the number is under forty. Nawawi says the scholars of usul al-fiqh adduce these traditions also.

(Ahmad [4:79, 4:100])

Sayyiduna Abu Harayrah (RadhiAllahu Ta'ala Anhu) says that the Blessed Apostle (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said:

Tranlation :

(Whosoever enters a cemetery and recites the Surat al-Fatihah, the “Qul Huwa ’Llahu ahad” (Surat al-Ikhlas) and the “Alha-kumu ’t-Takathur” (Surat al-Takathur) and says,

“O’ Allah! I have conferred the reward of whatever I have recited from your Word, to the Faithful men and the Faithful women of these graves, the deceased in those graves intercede for him in the presence of Allah ta'ala.)

Imam Jalaluddin al-Suyuti (Rehmat'Ullah Alaih) says:

(And as far as the recitation [of the Blessed Qur’an] on the grave is concerned, our
companions, as well as others, are absolutely certain on its legality.)

Sayyiduna Anas (Radhi Allahu Ta'ala anhu) reported that the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said:

(Whosoever enters a cemetery and recites the Surah Ya-sin, Allah Ta'ala makes a concession [in punishment] for them, and He grants the amount of reward for the reciter as there are the number of buried persons.

(SharI al-NudUr, pp.130)

The great classical scholar Allama Qurtubi (rahmatuallah aleh) comments

Allamah al-Qurtubi , with respect to the Hadith, “Recite the Surah Ya-sin on
your deceased ones”, says:

“This (Hadith) could possibly mean that the recitation be made close to the
deceased person whilst he/she is dying, or it could [also] possibly mean that it be
made next to his/her grave.”)

It has been reported by Sayyiduna 'Hadrat Ali karram-Allahu wajha-hu al-karim that the Final Messenger (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said:

(Whosoever passes by some graves and recites the “Qul Huwa ’Llahu Ahad” (Surat al-Ikhlas) eleven times, and that he confers the reward thereof to the deceased ones, then ,he [himself] shall be given reward equal to the reward of the number of the deceased persons [in total.].”
